Founded in 1994, The American Children of SCORE has performed in
Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maryland, at the Kennedy Center
and the MCI Center in Washington, D.C. and throughout Virginia.
The group is patterned after a similar group in Savannah, Georgia,
which Artistic Director John Krumich
co-founded with Lynne Tobin in 1989. SCORE has collaborated
with symphony orchestras; adult choral groups including a performance
of Orff's Carmina Burana; the well-known Irish folk group, Celtic
Thunder; the East Coast Bluegrass Band; and SCORE groups from other
parts of the country. SCORE has premiered SAINT WENCESLAS, an original
musical drama by Krumich and has collaborated with an opera company
in the production of YONDER MOUNTAIN, an original Appalachian folk
opera by the artistic director.
In 1998, SCORE released its first compact disc entitled "My
Singing Bird." In June 2001, SCORE, in collaboration with Opera
Theatre of Northern Virginia, presented YOUNDER MOUNTAIN, an Appalachian
folk opera by John Krumich. SCORE's second
CD was released in November, 2001.
